Linux trainers and trainees are also welcomed from within the LUG.

A) This meeting will in Part A:-

1) Review the Linux training including certification programs of b-lux.net

2) Outline opportunities as Linux trainers (LUG members who are skilled Linux users): These include

Teaching/Demonstrating in:

  • Programming in Java, C/C++,

  • database configuration in PostgreSQL and MySQL,,

  • in StarOffice/OpenOffice2.x, The Gimp and KOffice,

  • in modern networking/system administration.

3) Outline concessionary training for less experienced LUG members/attendees.

B) The meeting in Part B will be an introduction to live Linux CDROMs.

Many modern Linux distributions are available that run from cdrom only. This procedure of running the operating-system from read-only memory results in robust and rugged machines. (You can for instance, reset the machine while it is running without incurring any 'hard-disk-errors'.)

This meeting will have a host of live-cdroms available: These include:

  • The Knoppix live-cdrom,

  • the Mandrake-Move live-cdrom,

  • the SuSE demo live-cdrom,

  • the Damm-small-Linux live-cdrom,

  • the Slax live-cdrom,

  • the Adios live-cdrom.

  • the Feather-Linux live-cdrom,

  • the Yes-Linux live-cdrom,

  • the Basilick live cdrom.

If you have a portable computer you can bring it along to try any or all of these live-cdroms.
